Murat Taner graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Middle East Technical University, in 1985. He held the positions of research assistant and teaching assistant while pursuing his graduate degree in the area of artificial intelligence at the University of Florida. He worked in software development projects, developing simulation, decision support, and training software for the U.S. government and U.S. military.
After returning to Turkey, he had the opportunity to take part in first-of-its-kind projects in Turkish private and public sectors.
In Yapı Kredi Bank, working with Andersen Consulting, he led the development of the first corporate Computer Based Training software in the nation. The use of this software reduced the total training time of 10,000 nationwide personnel from the order of months to the order of days.
While at Yapı Kredi Bank, Murat earned his PMP certification (Project Management Professional), awarded by PMI (Project Management Institute).
Murat then worked at TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center and took part in defence projects which led to the development of avionic system integration capabilities in the country. These projects paved the way for the first Turkish military helicopter with a nationally built Mission Computer.
Working as a consultant since 2012 in ERA Training and Consultancy, Murat aims to keep learning and providing support to organizations and project teams in the fields or project management, project management certification, problem solving, decision making, and sustainability.
As a member and volunteer of PMI and the PMI Turkish Chapter, he is reaching out to young professionals, university students, and school teachers to increase awareness and knowledge about the project management discipline.
Murat’s only regret in life is not having learned to play a musical instrument. His current interests are photography, model trains, cycling, and science fiction. He is married and has twin children.
